Barricade no obstacle

Seems like the Heather and Ivan Morison One Day Sculpture, previously posted about has come off without a hitch. Good work!

ODS project volunteers needed to handle art rubbish

Ivan and Heather Morison present their ambitious ODS project Journée des barricades at the corner of Stout Street & Lambton Quay this weekend, Sunday December 14.
Litmus is looking for 10 volunteers to assist with installing and de-installing the work and with minding it over the course of the day (5 minders per 3 hour shift covering Sunday from 8am to 8pm.

Jenny Gillam said "this will be an unprecedented opportunity to work with the artists on realizing a major piece of temporary public sculpture. The experience gained from working on this will be immense and a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn about how large scale temporary public art is made."

Apparently the work involves handling a large amount of 'recycled objects' and building a structure from them. It will be quite physically demanding work - but they also need people who can drill holes, bolt stuff, work with strapping, help problem-solve...and work-footwear is a must. More info on the Morison's ODS work

Sadly it's not a paid job - but we have it from Team ODS that catering and good comraderie are provided! If you could help in any way - they'd appreciate it. They will also be giving volunteers a limited edition photograph by the Morisons.

Please contact Project technician Peter Trevelyan - his cell phone is 021 167 0610 or his email is petertrevelyan at hotmail dot com
or Jenny Gillam at Litmus 801 2794 extn 6197

Well done all winners!

Congratulations to the winners of the 2008 Arts Foundation New Generation Awards!

The New Generation Award covers a range of creative practices including visual art and is selected by one guest 'curator' each year. According to their website it "celebrates early achievement and is an investment in the careers of each recipient. Biennially five artists are awarded $25,000 each, donated by Freemasons New Zealand."

The five recipients of the 2008 New Generation Awards are a worthy bunch: (left to right) lyric soprano Madeleine Pierard, musician Jeff Henderson (of Happy), artist Alex Monteith, (showed the WLG Film Archive last year) Wellington-based writer/actor Jo Randerson, and writer Anna Sanderson.

Last year’s selection was made by Jon Bywater and the 2008 visual arts winner was Eve Armstrong. The curator of these Arts Foundation New Generation Awards is Gregory O’Brien, a City Gallery curator, writer, teacher and artist.

Enjoy would particularly like to congratulate Anna Sanderson, and let you know that her recently commissioned text on Kah Bee Chow's One Day Sculpture for Enjoy just went up on the Litmus site. Even from such a biased position as I inhabit, I'm still prepared to say it is great piece of art writing...!
