We're back outta the black for now...
More news about Section 92A (an amendment to the NZ copyright act that would see artists, musicians or any internet user have their internet connection cut off by their ISP for mere suspicion of downloading copyrighted material)
In a press conference Monday 23 feb, John Key announced that Section 92Awould be delayed until March 27th. This is not the repeal requested by The Creative Freedom Foundation and other protesting groups, but is is certainly a small victory. Bronwyn Holloway-Smith from CFF notes: "This shows how modern online movements and efforts can result in real world change... Thanks everyone!"
Simon Power was interviewed by Sean Plunket about the recent delay of Section 92A to allow for the TCF and APRA/RIANZ/NZFACT to reach agreement. In the interview Sean Plunket asks "So you're leaving it to two groups, that are non-government, with no representation from the users subject to the law, to work out how to implement the Copyright Act?".

good old fashioned art beat-up
The world section of the New Zealand herald online today prominently features an art beat-up that conforms to the genre well...- Eye catching heading: Check - "Swedish train vandalised as part of thesis"
- Lack of information: Check
- Little analysis: Check - "Maybe it was abstract impressionism"
- Use of ridicule and omission to demean a project: Check

The National Drawing Award people's choice is a draw!

ARTSPACE, The Physics Room and Enjoy are pleased to announce the People’s Choice Award 2008/2009.
This year two artists share the honour of the People’s Choice Award; the drawings of Chloe Marsters and Casey O’Connell were chosen, and as a result each will take home $500 cash and $150 credit with Gordon Harris. Big ups Chloe and Casey. Their drawings are featured below.
The Peep's Choice Award offered a chance for visitors to the Auckland and Christchurch exhibitions to have an active role in judging part of the competition by popular vote. Enjoy's audience will get to see these and the rest of the National Drawing Award entries from next Friday.
