Calm after the storm

What a crazy few days Wellington has just had; with openings at Enjoy and the Adam Art Gallery, One Day Sculpture projects by Roman Ondak and Billy Apple, as well as the ODS series Symposium and a last minute work by Santiago Sierra, to boot.
Among the crowds of local and visiting art-world insiders however, it was great to see a larger slice of the population getting involved - from the woman demanding her money back after Jane Rendell's keynote lecture (that's just not cricket!), to the many curious Wellingtonians engaging with/bewildered by Apple's work in the Botanic Gardens.
What a pity then, that after all the excitement and constructive art activity, the only thing to be mentioned in the media (on the front page of the Dominion Post I'll add) is an unfounded, dirt digging critique of Sierra's work: "I don't know about [justifying] it economically..." states an apparently 'letdown' viewer... The mind boggles.

The new (Communications Manager) Paula

Enjoy is pleased to introduce Jeremy Booth as our new Communications Manager and Administrative Assistant; filling the shoes of the wonderful Paula who will soon depart our shores.

Jeremy is a Wellington based artist working mainly in lens-based media. He completed his BFA at Massey in 2007 and Post-Graduate Diploma in Museum Studies in 2008, and is now very excited to be taking the reins of Enjoy's publishing and communications. Anyone wishing to contribute to a project, become involved with Enjoy as a volunteer, post an exhibition/event add on the Blog, or whatever else ... e-mail him directly: jeremy@enjoy.org.nz

Sacred Hart comes to Wellington

Opening this Saturday 15th March at 5pm, Terry Urbahn (long time favorite friend of Enjoy) has what appears to be a comprehensive survey exhibition at the Film Archive MediaGallery. A sure highlight will be Sacred Hart the time-based installation created for the Govett-Brewster last year and showing in Wellington by special arrangement with the Auckland Festival.
