Congratulations to the winners of the 2008 Arts Foundation New Generation Awards!
The New Generation Award covers a range of creative practices including visual art and is selected by one guest 'curator' each year. According to their website it "celebrates early achievement and is an investment in the careers of each recipient. Biennially five artists are awarded $25,000 each, donated by Freemasons New Zealand."
The five recipients of the 2008 New Generation Awards are a worthy bunch: (left to right) lyric soprano Madeleine Pierard, musician Jeff Henderson (of Happy), artist Alex Monteith, (showed the WLG Film Archive last year) Wellington-based writer/actor Jo Randerson, and writer Anna Sanderson.
Last year’s selection was made by Jon Bywater and the 2008 visual arts winner was Eve Armstrong. The curator of these Arts Foundation New Generation Awards is Gregory O’Brien, a City Gallery curator, writer, teacher and artist.
Enjoy would particularly like to congratulate Anna Sanderson, and let you know that her recently commissioned text on Kah Bee Chow's One Day Sculpture for Enjoy just went up on the Litmus site. Even from such a biased position as I inhabit, I'm still prepared to say it is great piece of art writing...!
